THE MOBOS 2020 NOMINATIONS – HOSTED BY CHUNKZ AND MAYA JAMA, 9TH DECEMBER
While the ‘Best Grime Act’ category features some of the scenes strongest and highly acclaimed talent, the alternative categories for this years MOBO Awards boast a strong roster to represent the rest of the UK.
Following the success of his chart topping album ‘Crabs In A Bucket’ back in August, Nines leads the way at this years awards with a total of five nominations including ‘Best Male Act’, ‘Best Hip Hop Act’ and ‘Album of the Year’. Other nominees up for multiple awards include Stormzy, Lianne La Havas, Mahalia and Tiana Major 9 who all have three nominations each.
‘Album of the Year’, arguably one of the most esteemed categories, features some of the UK’s heavyweights including J Hus’ with ‘Big Conspiracy’ and Stormy with ‘Heavy Is The Head’.
Away from music, other categories include come of the countries most promising emerging talent, such as presenters Harry Pinero and Henrie Kwushue who have both been nominated for ‘Best Media Personality’.
With three out of five ‘Song of the Year’ nominations being within the ‘Drill’ genre, discussions online have already proposed the idea of a ‘Drill’ category being introduced for the future. Drill has steadily become one of the UK’s most popular genres, attaining more accolades and industry recognition this year than ever.
One of 2020’s biggest rising stars, Chunkz, will be hosting the awards alongside presenter and nations’ sweetheart Maya Jama. This year the awards are talking place online via YouTube as well as broadcasting on BBC1. The virtual ceremony will last 90 minutes and feature performances from Headie One, M Huncho, Kojey Radical, Tiwa Savage and Ms Banks amongst others.
