The MOBO Awards 2020 – Hosted by Chunkz and Maya Jama

The MOBOs makes its highly anticipated return after 3 years with a virtual ceremony streamed live via their YouTube channel on Wednesday 9th December.

The awards were held at Exhibition London in Shepherd’s Bush and hosted by two of the nations most treasured media personalities; Maya Jama & Chunkz. Despite this years cybernated approach due to Covid-19, it was nevertheless a mighty celebration of some of the brightest stars and the finest talent in the UK black music and entertainment scene.

Headie One and M Huncho kicked things off as the opening act performing track Bumpy Ridefrom Headies highly acclaimed and chart topping debut album Edna, followed by a cocktail of vibrant, conceptual performances from H.E.R., Tiwa Savage, Ms Banks, DaVido, Young T & Bugsey, Shaybo, Tiana Major9, Stylo G & Kojey Radical, as well as thought provoking tributes to Grenfell, SARS and Thea and Reign Tecruz.

Maya and Chunkzinfectious chemistry and banter lead us through the ceremony with Chunkz himself picking up the award for Best Media Personality. Nines and Headie one both scooped up two awards each; Nines for Album of the Year and Best Hip Hop Act, and Headie for Best Male Actand joint triumph with fellow artists Young T and Bugsey for Song of the Year – Dont Rush. Other winners include JME for Best Grime Act, Aitch for Best Newcomerand Mahalia, taking home both Best R&B/Soul Actand Best Female Act.
