The HeavyTrackerz ‘Trkrz FM’

The Heavytrackerz – Trkrz FM

The Heavytrackerz are renowned in the grime scene for producing some of the scene’s biggest bangers, such as “Not That Deep”, “German Whip” and have been a staple in the grime producer scene for the last 6 years. Now they are back with a new collection: “Trkrz FM”.

This new album takes a more experimental sound than their usual. On some tracks, they take their notorious grime sound and take it in a new direction, like on “What You Do” with Capo Lee, Frisco and Bossman Birdie; the new sound that this track and a few other tracks take is refreshing and executed well, without diluting the genre or selling out.

There are a couple of party bangers on the album as well, “Sweet Like” is a garage banger with Big Narstie, who, as always, brings his own unique energy and flow to the track that only he can. “In Di Morning” with Alika and Double S is a tune that Double S bodies with his flow and wordplay, showing that he is still a top tier MC.

The song “Not Enough” is a pop tune that, although it isn’t a bad song at all and it shows the Heavytrackerz’s versatility to produce a variety of genres, it seems out of place. It sounds more in line with an Ed Sheeran album than an album by one of grime’s biggest producer groups.

Ending the album with the “Raise Your Glass” remix is fitting as it combines some of grime’s legends with some underrated talent and a new gen, top tier MC in Yizzy. This had been released earlier this year, but it still is a brilliant remix and shows how alive and kicking the scene is.

Overall, the album has some excellent tracks that will certainly be on repeat and this record shows their quality as some of the best UK producers aren’t declining any time soon. The feature selection is excellent too, for example, with Ghetts and Asher D delivering heat on their collaboration track “Put The Word Out”. There isn’t a bad verse on the album; the features combined with some elite production makes for a great listen.
