It’s been a productive summer for Dexplicit. He’s released two grime EPs and the experimental bass record “Digital Monk”. Before now, Dexplicit released “Gotham” – the first of two grime EP’s – and “Digital Monk” to Spotify and Bandcamp, while this month sees him bring his second grime EP of the summer, “Second Wave”, to the streaming platform.
Opening track ‘City Of Gods’ sets the tone with dense choir samples, adding an atmospheric flair to a peak-time rave grime banger; while ‘Harlequin’ leads with throbbing basslines and snappy percussion.
What I love about “Second Wave” is how Dexplicit plays with genre tropes. Choir samples and strings are commonplace in grime, yet Dexplicit’s choir samples sound dense and his string sounds are deployed subtly. On a track like ‘Orange Diesel’, the elements come together, creating grime tracks that sound suitably huge. If you missed “Second Wave” on its original release, be sure to go and stream it now.
