Manga St Hilaire brings us a smooth stripped back banger “DFKM” with Lewi B and Freeza Chin on production.
This one comes off the Grime goat’s latest album with Lewi B “Glow in the Dark”, released earlier in the summer.
For this heavy one, Manga slows things down a notch from his usual skippy flows for a frank account of what he’s going through from being stuck in a midlife crisis to being underrated and left behind.
With a melancholic but bassy and catchy beat, this one gives you them drive time reflection vibes.
Manga spits the relatable lyrics: “All of my friends are depressed and I’m sitting here wondering if it’s gonna be me next.
“I don’t really leave the house too much and I only respond over text.
“Waking up at 3pm and wondering where the day went.
“Wondering where my days went.”
Directed by Adam Horton, the visuals are black and white from start to finish to portray the message of the track – as we see Manga and his boys in a car park hanging in a whip. He proceeds to spits his thought-provoking bars as his crew are seen messing about catching jokes, popping bottles and making money as if he wasn’t there.
The clever and technical lyricist continues to spit about a midlife crisis and needing a rest, on the track that is pure bars and story-telling.
We can always count on Manga to spit in a sincere and straight-to-the-point manner, and throughout the 12-track album he shows his versatility and originality with that articulate flow he’s built a reputation for since Roll Deep days.
Manga is always respected for his consistency with his music and creating his own lane.
Fans will be looking forward to seeing the OG perform his headline show at the Omeara in London this Thursday.
